Projecting out onto the Baltic Sea lies the capital and cultural city of Estonia, Tallinn. Tallinn, once an ominous Soviet City, has evolved into one of the most vibrant and photogenic cities in the world and has been rated as one of the greenest places in the world today.
A first glance, the medieval streetscapes will make you feel like you are in some sort of fairytale. Horses trot over cobblestones, which are embellished by towering walls, while the traditional church spires fill the skies. The magical appeal of this city reaches its heights at the favorite spot known as Old Town. The Old Town is well preserved into two tiers, and it's also classified as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The notable town hall was developed in 1404, and it is one of the remaining Gothic halls in the whole of Europe. The St. Olaf Church is an excellent place to experience the ambiance of the city for high grounds.
Tallinn provides some of nature's most breathtaking scenes, especially during the winter months. When it comes to enjoying the best of drinks and foods, a good recommendation for you would be to head to Tartu Mnt, where local bars and cafes are the preferred relaxing destinations. This area provides exceptional access to the Central Market, where one can enjoy freshly baked bread and favorite local dishes. Moving around is also simple thanks to what is known as the 'Tallin Card'. It gives you free access to over 40 of Tallinn's best attractions, museums and tours, unlimited free use of public transport.
The People of Tallinn
After Estonia regained independence from the Soviet Union, the people of Tallinn seemed to regain their heritage as a nation of singers. In every town and in every year, there are singing festivals. You may even find in the public squares of Tallinn, youth groups, folk-dancers, and orchestra players, all dressed up in picturesque national costumes entertaining the cruise ship tourists.
