Linz, Upper Austria state capital, is the third-largest city in Austria. The town is situated north of Austria about 19 miles south of the Czech border on the two sides of Danube River. The city's population is approximately 204,846. In the year 2009, Linz and Vilnius (which is the capital of Lithuanian) were chosen as the Capitals of European Culture. Also as from December 1st, 2014, Linz received membership to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a Media Arts city. Such a title is achieved when a municipality has enriched their urban lifestyle with successful integration and sponsorship of media art as well as involving the society in the nearby with electronic forms of art. Linz is popularly known for its Linzer tort which is known as the worldwide oldest cake with the first recipe made back in the date 1653.
