This small town, at the bottom of the Appennine Mountains, has been home to well-known and prodigious artists such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. For centuries this magnificent city has held museums and statues all throughout its streets. The Piazza della Signoria houses one of Florence, Italy's most well-known wonders, Michelangelo's David. This marvelously detailed and astonishing statue stands at nearly four and a half meters high and has a glorious, strong, and superior appearance. The Museo Leonardo da Vinci (Leonardo da Vinci Museum) holds many of the works done by the genius himself. Dedicated to his inventions and illustrations, this museum can be found in the heart of the city as a magical place for people of all ages to marvel at.
Florence is widely known for being home to many breathtaking churches dating back to Renaissance days. Filled with striking paintings and sculptures, these churches are awe inspiring and beautifully built with feelings of the history and romance of this antiquated city.
The Ponte Vecchio is an additional spectacle the city is known for. This medieval stoned arch bridge rests over the Arno River which runs west through Florence to Empoli and Pisa. Romantic evening rides on the "barchetto," or "little boat," displays the bridge along with jewelry and goldsmith shops perched against the sides. Along the river lies vibrant green banks. Illuminated by the setting sun the beautiful river and bridge stand magical and enchanting to all who are lucky enough to witness.
Florence, Italy may be a small city. However, this romantic and historical wonder is still to this day one of the largest tourist attractions in the world. Being home to so many spectacular sites and attractions, it will forever be remembered as one of the most captivating cities ever to have existed.
